Muirfield, East Lothian

The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers wrote one of the earliest sets of rules of golf in 1744, and it has played at Muirfield since the 1890s. The course has hosted The Open many times.

Its routing is celebrated: two loops of nine running in opposite directions, so the wind comes at you from every angle. It is widely considered one of the fairest tests in championship golf.
