Turnberry: Ailsa

Dramatic coastal golf beneath the lighthouse, looking out to Ailsa Craig and Arran.

The Ailsa course and lighthouse, Turnberry

The Ailsa is among the most beautiful courses in championship golf. Its middle holes run along rocks and coves beneath a lighthouse, with Ailsa Craig and Arran across the water.

It was the setting for the 1977 ‘Duel in the Sun’ between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus. A more recent redesign brought several holes even closer to the sea.
