The Benefits of Private Chauffeur Travel in Scotland

Golf bags, narrow roads, a dram after the round. Why a private driver is the single most valuable part of a Scottish golf trip.

Of all the choices you make when planning a Scottish golf holiday, how you travel between courses may matter most to how the trip feels. Many of our guests tell us they first considered driving themselves. Here is why we nearly always suggest otherwise.

The roads

Scotland drives on the left, and many of the roads between golf towns are narrow, winding and rural, some single-track with passing places. After a long transatlantic flight, or a windy afternoon on the links, that is not where most people want their attention.

The golf bags

Four to eight golfers with full-sized travel bags, plus luggage for a week or more, need a properly sized vehicle and someone who knows how to load it. A chauffeur handles all of it, at the airport, at every hotel and at every clubhouse.

The clubhouse

Some of the best moments of a Scottish golf trip happen after the round, over lunch in a historic clubhouse or a dram in the bar. With a driver waiting, everyone in your party can enjoy that fully.

Local knowledge

A good Scottish chauffeur is far more than a driver. They know how long the drive from St Andrews to Carnoustie really takes in morning traffic, where to stop for coffee on the A9, which clubhouses expect a jacket and which back road has the view. That knowledge quietly shapes a better day.

Time and timing

Links golf runs to tee times, and missing one is not an option. A private driver plans around them, allows for weather and roadworks, and makes sure you arrive with time to warm up.

Flexibility

Plans change. A sudden opening on a tee sheet, a long lunch, a wish to see a castle on the way home: with your own vehicle and driver, the day can bend to suit you.

What to expect from us

We work with carefully selected local chauffeur partners and match the vehicle to your party, usually a premium executive vehicle or a luxury minibus for larger groups. Your driver's details are in your travel dossier before you leave home. On our Reserve journeys, helicopter transfers between regions can also be arranged where conditions allow.

Every one of our journeys includes private chauffeur travel as standard. If you would like to talk it through, start here.
